U.S. tells Arab governments Huckabee’s remarks were personal views
Senior officials in the Trump administration have moved to calm Arab allies after U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee triggered backlash with controversial remarks, Politico reported Monday.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Huckabee suggested it would be “fine” if Israel took control of the entire region referenced in the biblical phrase “from the Nile to the Euphrates,” while adding that Israel is not seeking such a move.
According to the report, U.S. officials told concerned Arab states the comments reflected Huckabee’s personal views and did not represent a change in administration policy. Several countries — including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates — reportedly condemned the remarks as provocative and destabilizing.
