120 ISIS militants escape prison in northern Syria amid clashes
The Syrian Interior Ministry reported overnight between Monday and Tuesday that around 120 ISIS militants escaped from a prison in the town of al-Shaddadi. This figure contradicts reports by Kurdish news agency Rudaw, which claimed that 1,500 militants had fled. In addition, the Syrian Interior Ministry said that special forces recaptured 81 prisoners during the escape attempt.
As the parties blame each other for the incident and clashes persist, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham issued a stern warning to Damascus on X: “If Syrian government forces continue to advance in the north toward Raqqa,” he stated, “I will push for reimposing Caesar Act sanctions on steroids.”
