Driver faces hate crime charges in ramming of Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn

The driver arrested on Wednesday night after repeatedly ramming the World Headquarters of Chabad-Lubavitch, a Hasidic Jewish movement, is officially facing hate crime charges.

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Dan Sohail from New Jersey. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a Manhattan briefing that Sohail had attended a Chabad gathering at the same site about 10 days ago.

No injuries were reported from the ramming attack.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the attack, saying: “Antisemitism has no place in our city, and violence or intimidation against Jewish New Yorkers is unacceptable.” U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also denounced the act as “pure evil.”
