Report: U.S. forces in Syria withdraw from key base to Jordan

All U.S. forces have withdrawn from the Al-Tanf base into Jordan, two security sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

Al-Tanf, near the Jordan–Iraq–Syria border triangle, has been considered the main U.S. foothold in Syria. If confirmed, the move would mark the closure of the largest American base in the country, which foreign reports have linked to regional missile defense efforts.

The development follows earlier reports of a gradual U.S. drawdown in Syria, including troop and equipment withdrawals from bases in the northeast, where Kurdish forces were said to have filled some positions.
