South Africa expels Israeli diplomat; Israel responds by expelling senior South African envoy
Israel declared South Africa’s senior diplomat in Israel persona non grata, ordering his departure within 72 hours, PM Benjamin Netanyahu and FM Gideon Sa'ar said on Friday.
The move follows South Africa’s earlier decision to declare Israel’s ambassador in Pretoria persona non grata. Netanyahu’s office and the Foreign Ministry said the step responds to what they described as persistent false attacks by South Africa against Israel on the international stage, including recent legal and diplomatic actions.
Netanyahu and Sa’ar said additional steps may follow. Since the war began, South Africa has led a hostile campaign against Israel, including a case at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
