3 female IDF soldiers attacked, rescued from ultra-Orthodox crowd in Bnei Brak; 22 arrested

Violent riots broke out Sunday in Bnei Brak, Tel Aviv’s ultra-Orthodox city, after three female Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were attacked by dozens of rioters and forced to barricade themselves inside a building before being rescued by police.

Police said the officers were assaulted and a police motorcycle was set on fire. At least 22 suspects were arrested as large forces were deployed, and stun grenades were used to disperse the unrest.

The IDF said the soldiers were conducting a routine pre-enlistment visit related to Havat HaShomer when they were attacked by extremist ultra-Orthodox rioters.
