WASHINGTON, DC — This is the most consequential moment in the modern Middle East since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

No American president has ever – ever – dealt so courageously or so decisively with the Iranian regime since its leaders declared war on America 47 years ago.

The Iranian regime has killed, wounded, and maimed more Americans than any government in the world since the Vietnam War in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Yet no American leader has ever truly confronted the tyrants in Tehran.

Until now.

When Iran ordered its terror proxy, Hezbollah, to blow up the U.S. Marines barracks in 1983 – an attack that killed 241 Americans and wounded 100 more – then-President Ronald Reagan, my favorite modern American leader, didn’t retaliate militarily.

Instead, Reagan pulled all U.S. forces out of Lebanon, effectively giving Iran a huge win.

When Iran ordered terrorists to blow up the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996, killing 19 American servicemen and wounding 400 more Americans and internationals, then-President Bill Clinton did nothing to retaliate against Iran.

When Iranian terrorists began killing and maiming American forces in Iraq with IEDs and other weapons from 2003 onward, then-President George W. Bush did nothing to retaliate against Iran.

When the Iranian regime was getting dangerously close to building nuclear weapons and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was considering military action in 2012, then-President Barack Obama stopped him dead in his tracks – and then negotiated the insane and disastrous Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that paved Iran’s pathway to nuclear weapons.

Former President Joe Biden certainly did nothing to stop – much less punish or destroy – the Iranian regime’s efforts to build, buy, or steal nuclear weapons, and the missiles to deliver them.

By precipitously pulling out of Afghanistan, Biden demonstrated such weakness that the Iranian regime felt emboldened to attack the U.S., Israel, and our Arab allies over and over and over again.

So this is big.

Really big.

President Trump is doing something that no other American president was willing to do.

In his first term, he ripped up the terrible JCPOA deal and imposed the maximum pressure campaign on Iran.

He also took out Qasem Soleimani, Iran’s most dangerous terror master.

Last summer, Trump worked to destroy most of Iran’s nuclear weapons program – but only after giving Iran 60 days to negotiate a serious and verifiable deal.

They refused, and so he acted.

Now, after being very patient with Tehran, Trump is acting, making the right move to protect the American people, American interests, and American allies.

The so-called Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has led the most wicked regime on the planet since 1989.

Khamenei runs an apocalyptic, genocidal death cult whose explicit mission is to destroy America, destroy Israel, destroy Judeo-Christian civilization, and bring about the End of Days and the global reign of the Twelfth Imam.

Yet President Trump is not intimidated.

Trump has given the Iranian regime every opportunity to make peace and avoid war if they would just give up their offensive military capabilities and support of global terror.

But Tehran said no.

Again and again and again.

So, thank God for the decisiveness and the moral courage of President Trump.

I think he's going to go down in history as one of the most consequential American presidents in our nation’s 250-year history.

Yes, there are many risks and challenges ahead.

That’s all the more reason for Christians to pray without ceasing.

But on this historic day, let us also be grateful for a president who has decided to do what no other American leaders have ever been willing to do: Win the war the ayatollahs declared against America 47 years ago.
